If you’ve been trying your best to hold it all together but now feel completely exhausted, know that you’re not alone.
Maybe you’ve felt a pressure to keep everyone else happy, while pushing aside your own wants and needs. Perhaps past experiences are influencing how you live your life in the present. Or maybe you simply feel as though you’ve lost sight of yourself somewhere along the way.
You might know that something needs to change, but you’re not quite sure where to start, or how. This is when therapy for women can help.
I offer a safe, supportive space where you can put everyone else’s expectations aside for a while, understand what’s keeping you “stuck,” and start moving toward the life you want.
What Is Women’s Counseling?
Women’s counseling, also sometimes known as “women’s therapy,” takes into account the experiences, challenges, and social pressures that often shape women’s lives. Therapy gives you the chance to hit the “pause” button on other people’s opinions and demands, and reconnect with yourself and what you really need.
Together, we can work through what’s brought you to therapy and explore what you want your life to look like from here on.
What Can Therapy for Women Help With?
Women’s therapy can help with many issues that women face, including:
Stress, Anxiety, and Overwhelm
Do you find yourself laying awake at night with “what ifs” running through your mind? Or perhaps you can’t seem to shake off the feeling that it’s never safe for you to fully relax. Stress, anxiety, and overwhelm can show up in many different ways. Whichever way it comes up for you, therapy can help you understand what’s happening and decide what you want to change.
People-Pleasing and Putting Others First
Maybe you’re the person that everyone relies on, while you quietly wonder who’s actually looking out for you. Together, we can explore what may be underneath patterns of putting other people first, practice setting boundaries, and make room for the things that matter most to you, too.
High Achievement and Burnout
When you’re used to achieving, pushing through challenges, or being the person who “gets things done,” burnout might suddenly appear and leave you questioning how long you can keep going. Therapy for women helps you separate your self-worth from productivity. We can work together to understand what may be driving perfectionism and learn how to build a healthier relationship with achievement.
Motherhood and Losing Yourself
Motherhood can be deeply meaningful, but may also leave you wondering where you went. Becoming a mom might have meant that your own needs, career, relationships, or identity have become buried without you realizing it. If you’re questioning the roles you’re expected to play or wondering who you are outside of being a parent, therapy for moms offers you a dedicated space for healing. You can turn down the noise of society’s expectations and finally hear your own voice again.
Childhood, Relationship, and Betrayal Trauma
If you know that past experiences are affecting your life and you’re ready to do something about it, therapy for women may help you move forward. Together, we can explore how your experiences may be shaping your relationships and everyday life, and learn how to rebuild trust in yourself.
Life Changes, Relationships, and Identity
Life doesn’t always follow the plans we make. So, career changes, loss, relationships, health transitions, and other major shifts in life might leave you wondering, What comes next? Whether you’re working through relationship issues, finding it difficult to set boundaries, or figuring out who you are in a new stage of life, therapy provides a supportive space for you to process the changes that are happening.
Caregiving and the “Sandwich Generation”
If you’re raising children while also caring for aging parents, you may be part of the “sandwich generation.” This means you might feel caught between caring for parents who need physical, medical, or financial support and raising children or supporting young adults who still rely on you. Therapy can offer a safe space to process exhaustion, explore boundaries, and manage the emotional stress that can come with caring for everyone else.
My Approach to Women’s Therapy
Hi, I’m Lisa Franks, a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and trauma therapist in California. My approach in therapy is direct, warm, and trauma-informed, with a focus on helping you understand what’s keeping you stuck and create the changes that really matter to you.
When we work together, you don’t have to have everything already figured out – I’ll meet you where you are. I’ll ask you questions, notice patterns, make connections, and help you get to the root of what’s keeping you “stuck,” so we can work through it and find a way forward.
My therapy approach is focused and time-bound, typically taking place over three to six months.
I’m a private-pay, out-of-network therapist, which means we don’t have to work within any restrictions imposed by insurance companies. But depending on your insurance plan, you may also be able to receive partial reimbursement through your out-of-network benefits.
Virtual Therapy for Women Across California
Not everyone can make it to a therapy practice, and that’s okay. Online counseling provides you with the same support as in-person therapy, just without the added layer of a stressful commute. Many people find virtual therapy offers a more flexible way of attending sessions, helping them to balance work, family, and a busy schedule with getting the support they need.
I offer virtual therapy intensives and weekly therapy sessions across California, so you can choose the format that works best for you.
This means you can access therapy for women from a place where you feel comfortable and have privacy – even if that happens to be your living room.
